Our Bière de Garde, named Le Cygne after the beautiful Swan Mountains of the Flathead Valley, is a French farmhouse style ale. This style is a strong pale ale or keeping beer traditionally brewed in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France. We have aged ours right here in Bigfork, Montana in oak wine casks for five months to bring a woody and red wine flavor to this complex, slightly tart, old world beer. Le Cygne is brewed with light Caramel and Aromatic malts, and American Noble Hops rounds out the recipe.
Toppers Notes: This a brew that needs at least one more year in the bottle, it is however pleasing now and does stay within the parameters of the style which as the brewery states is a French farm-house ale. Given more aging the flavors will be richer in my humble opinion. Prost!
